Here’s a little breakdown of what I’ve been mainlining lately! And so also… all I’ve been talking about lately.
In addition to this being my occasional Fives Faves post, my friend Joyce has also launched her “Best Friends Link-Up” today, where she is sharing the links she would usually just send to a friend. Appropriately, I have been busy talking about these rather than looking for cool stuff on the Internet… so here are the links to THOSE things.
1. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Could have been super dark, but instead it is super fun. Full of my favorite kind of sitcom people: TOTAL WEIRDOS.
I also love that the show is basically devoid of any straight, white men. I love many of those, but I also love that Tina Fey and Robert Carlock have created a show full of women, people of color, and LGBT people, when the sitcom standard is so not for people who don’t fit the mold.
2. The Jinx
Is super dark and 100% straight, white men. Jarecki terrible, and that’s even considering Robert Durst. I agree with this tweet about “Roberto,” as he is apparently known to Jarecki per the final episode:
I thought my parents were crazy for marathoning True Detective because it is so dark, but then again, I marathoned this crazy show last week.
3. Empire
I’m still on this, in a big way. COOKIE.
This show is unabashedly crazy, and I love it so very much.
Podcast from Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, recommended to me by Elise from Anchored Hope. I’m very much not a designer, but I love to hear about the design process. It’s a great podcast, and I’ve started listening from episode 1, back from 2012, and every time they say recording from Roberta’s in Bushwick, I get hungry. I have many delicious memories of that pizza.
The new Sufjan Stevens album is wonderful and tragic AND streaming on First Listen. Really heartbreakingly good. Enjoy. (Side-note, anyone want to stubhub some tickets to Sufjan in DC with me since I am so bad at buying concert tickets?)
Not going to acknowledge the fact that I watched all of that awful House of Cards season.
Linking up with Five Faves and Best Friends Link-Up because I can, and it’s wonderful!
I still need to watch Empire! And weirdos have a place in my heart, definitely checking out Kimmy Schmidt!
Ahhhh you clearly need to watch like WAY more TV. That’s my advice to everyone: watch way more TV.
UKS is my new obsession! hashbrown no filter!
I love all the nicknames Titus calls Kimmy. “Kimmillionaire.”
lol I’m so behind. I haven’t seen any of those. Probably because we gave up tv for lent haha.
