a little romance

I’m 25, single, it’s about to be Valentine’s Day, and I have to say I don’t mind it a bit. NO PRESSURE. Probably going to go see Selma on Saturday night, alone, and eat a gigantic popcorn for dinner with a big Sprite. Treat yoself.

That doesn’t mean I don’t still love some internet love stories for this weekend.

1. Love Letters from the Oval Office

These are so great. And I’ve loved the love of the Adamses since I read this and later this.

John Adams was definitely a difficult man. And I love when difficult people have great loves. That means there is ~~hope for me~~.

2. Rilke on Love

To love is good, too: love being difficult. For one human being to love another: that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation. For this reason young people, who are beginners in everything, cannot yet know love: they have to learn it.

Damn, Rilke. Sucker punch.

3. In case anyone feels like taking me on a date

4. “Completely unable to separate his devotion to his God and his devotion to his wife.” “Naked, calm love.”

Love, vocation, devotion. Take five and a half minutes to experience this beautiful multimedia piece.

5. Earnestness and commitment on The Hairpin: Who Is the Most Important Person In Your Life?

The variety of these people and connections warms my heart. We all have our people. We are all so different and need such different things from each other.

6. Well, hang on, how about some indifference from The Toast?

7. And you want epic, difficult love?? That’s not on the internet.

Kristin Lavransdatter, y’all. This book is so good, so tragic, so EPIC. Like, actually, because it is medieval Nordic.

Linking up romantically with 7QT!
