midweek tidbits

Tuesdays are the worst day of the week.

I think it’s a fact.

Here are some happier notes for this Wednesday. I hope you survived the dreadful Tuesday.

1. SERIAL SERIAL SERIAL. The best part about Wednesday is that it is almost Thursday AKA the day SERIAL gets posted.

Do you like a) murder mysteries b) This American Life c) suspense d) accessible and responsible reporting e) compelling storytelling f) conspiracy theories g) using your brain h) being trendy i) podcasts j) drama k) compassionate interviews l-y) [forthcoming] OR z) ALL OF THE ABOVE. I’m at Z myself, but if any of these are appealing for you, I encourage you to listen to this podcast. Or wait til they are all released and then binge because if you start now, you are going to turn into me: frothing at the mouth for the next episode and reading the /r/serialpodcast on Reddit. It’s honestly all I want to talk to anyone about right now. I will give strangers my phone number if they will text with me about Jay’s girlfriend Stephanie’s birthday. Don’t know what that means? Don’t talk to me for a few weeks.

2. I powered through two days of Whole30 (or Whole25, in my case). On Monday night, I was thinking I’d be able to get through a few days in Minnesota and back home without breaking and make it the-Whole-30. Because I made it through facing down two big trays of pastry and whoopie pies at work and then through a dinner. I picked the goat cheese off of my salad, didn’t drink, and had a Larabar when the dessert came around. Then I read this, which made me feel a little less cocksure about my day 1 success. And damn, was day 2 brutal. But this is part of why I think it’s going to be worth sticking out:

Remind yourself that food cannot fill that void for you—cannot make you feel truly accomplished, comforted, calm, happy, beautiful. Then, find another way to fill that need that does not involve those foods. Prepare yourselves for these days, knowing that all you have to do is see them through to the other side before things get much, much easier.

3. This Rifle wall calendar. Might help with my travel bug.

4. Throwback Fitness. This is a New York-based studio, so I haven’t tried it, but I am super into the concept. Apparently it has a very gym-class/recess vibe. I had mixed gym class experiences during my high school years, but I was never a hater. Would happily play floor hockey again. And I like rowing. Would definitely hit this up in DC. (A vibe not too different than November Project. I need to start getting up and going again… been a hot minute. I’ve been enjoying my ClassPass.)
