7 quick instant streams

How about seven instant view recommendations? We’ve got your Amazon Instant, your Netflix, and your Hulu all repped — this is an equal opportunity video situation. And I’m pretty sure all of them have free trials of some kind available.

1. 20 Feet From Stardom (available on Netflix)

Funny, moving, and great, great music. I love a documentary focused on women and their passions, and it was delightful. The movie flew by way too quickly. I will definitely re-watch.

2. Jiro Dreams of Sushi (available on Netflix)

I will watch this again and again. I have watched this again and again. Family psychodrama, experts focused on taking their skills to ever higher levels, a glimpse into a culture I don’t know, and some gorgeous, gorgeous food.

3. The Bachelorette (available on Hulu)

I know, I know. It’s like watching a trainwreck. And now she kicked off the farmer, the only legitimate person she had left.

4. The Good Wife (available on Amazon Instant)

My mom and sister have been telling me to watch this for years. I finally have listened to them, and this show is so, so good. The characters and motivations have got me dangerously hooked. Dammit, Amazon Instant.

5. Last Week Tonight

I know, I know — this one is HBO Go. But I find John Oliver to be so hilarious and witty, and this show delves into topics I’m unfamiliar with without making me feel ill informed or out of the loop, unlike The Daily Show, partially because it’s only on once a week. I will be watching this for a long time to come.

To Watch

6. Orphan Black (available on Amazon Instant)

I’ve heard nothing but raves about this show from everyone across the board. When I am ready to pick back up with something creepy… I will be turning to this.

7. Six Feet Under (available on Amazon Instant)

How have I not watched this?! We have HBO Go! But I really prefer the Amazon Instant interface, so now that it’s there, I have no excuse.

  1. SFU is my FAVORITE show ever! So amazing. Great writing, amazing performances! Fantastic! And I have to say, after 5 years, I just started The Good Wife awhile ago and am in the middle of season 3. SO GOOD! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

  2. I juuust watched 20 Feet from Stardom and thought it was really good! So fascinated to learn that so many sound tracks actually had the same backup singers on them! Also – if you’re enjoying The Good Wife, Scandal (which is on Netflix streaming) is another pretty good political type show.

  3. Oh man, I watch all the political-type shows, to be honest. Scandal is so appealingly trashy — FITZ, argh! I like Veep because it’s basically Scandal if everyone was completely inept.
