“Be good, love the Lord, pray for those who not know him. What a great grace it is to know God!” – St Josephine Bakhita
Just wanted to drop this sentiment from St Josephine Bakhita here — born in Darfur, kidnapped by slave traders, and through the worst kind of horrors, ended up in Italy where she converted and became a nun. Now the patron of her home country, Sudan.
“If I were to meet those who kidnapped me, and even those who tortured me, I would kneel and kiss their hands. For, if these things had not happened, I would not have been a Christian and a religious today.”
I had heard of her previously, but ran across her story today and am blown away. Humility, grace, trust, acceptance, simplicity, gratitude — basically every virtue I struggle with is here in this woman in spades.
I’ve been exploring the saints to work on my own faith life… Stay tuned for the occasional patron file.
